Innocent Baby Impala Approaches A Male Lion – Wrong Move

Sylvie Failletaz saw the incident while he went for a morning game drive near the Nyamepi campsite in Mana Pools, Zɪᴍʙᴀʙᴡᴇ. He recalled that morning’s weather, which was unusually warm for an early morning at roughly 25 °C. They came and found two lions that had consumed an impala the previous night. They were currently lounging around and being lazy, exactly like lions do.

He added that they were hoping the lions would move to some places after they had taken a few shots and had been observed for some time. They expected to see more than simply lions dozing off. Then, much to their sʜᴏᴄᴋ, a ʟᴏsᴛ baby impala appeared in the area and began to dash directly in the direction of the sleeping lion.

Sylvie said that they found it hard to imagine that a baby impala would approach a male lion. The newborn impala didn’t turn around as they expected when it became aware of the ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴛ.

The baby impala was so confused and naive that it continued to move as it didn’t know what the lion was. The young Impala nearly touched the dozing lion when it approached it. When it realized it wasn’t mummy, they hoped it would flee. Considering the lion had eaten the day before, they hoped he wouldn’t be interested in such a small feast.

However, that was impossible. The lion quickly sat up after cautiously raising his head to look at the little impala. The lion then began to move, at first it was slowly, but with a bit more effort, he went after the newborn impala and seized it. The baby’s chances of escaping were slim because it was already too late.
