This is the terrifying moment a helpless infant monkey clung to its dead mother, whose lifeless carcass dangled from a leopard’s lips. The young vervet monkey refused to release grip of its mother after the predator pounced at Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, despite putting itself in grave danger. The leopards, led by a female named Olimba, killed the juvenile during the hunt on October 14.

‘Nature is not always attractive, and this picture clearly reminds us the cruel truth of life,’ said wildlife photographer Shafeeq Mulla of Chipata, Zambia, who captured the heartbreaking incident on camera. The little vervet monkey refused to let go of its parents as a predator attacked Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. Despite the danger it was putting itself in by clinging to its mother, the little monkey refused to let go and was eventually mu.rdered by the group’s other leopards.
