Python Takes Five Hours To Swallow A Lizard Three Times Its Size

These images depict a snake that appeared to have taken on too much when it ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋed a large lizard. But the hard-working black-headed python in the Aᴜsᴛʀᴀʟɪᴀn outback persevered and was able to swallow the entire thing in one go.

The photos were taken by engineer Trevor McGowan, who claimed that he and his coworkers were in a state of sʜᴏᴄᴋ as they watched the snake eat the goanna lizard over the course of around five hours near Cloudbreak Mine in the Pilbara region.

The Irishman claimed that after taking the photos early in the day, he later noticed the goanna’s “bulge outline” inside the snake. Clearly, the python won the battle. It would not have required another meal for a while. He said that he forwarded the images to a couple of friends back home and it just exploded. The email traveled the world and came back to him.

In fact, nature was being turned on its head because goannas are carnivorous reptiles that feed on snakes. Black headed python adults can reach lengths of 8.5 feet. Their tails taper to a narrow tip, and their bodies are strong with a flattened appearance.

Reptiles make up the majority of the diet, while mammals are occasionally consumed. They can consume more since food is digested more quickly in warm weather because they live in the desert where they heat up much more quickly and stay warmer for longer.
