North Taranaki’s well-known granite formation Elephant Rock has lost a part of its trunk.
Elephant Rock is located next to the Three Sisters, another well-known rock formation, south of Mokau, off State Highway 3.
Approximately 400 meters distant, Mike Brown, a resident of Tongaporutu, can see the rock from his living room window.
Undoubtedly, it had suffered damage to its trunk, according to Brown.
It’s a big rock that looks like an elephant. It possesses the back, hind legs, and front legs of an elephant, as well as a trunk that protrudes from the front and extends to the ground. The elephant form, however, has vanished because the trunk has broken off. The earthquake, which we felt very strongly here, may have affected it; it was OK a week or two ago.
